Things didn't go well for Israel - Premier Tech in the 5th stage of the Giro d'Italia 2024. The team suffered the withdrawals of two of its riders, Nadav Raisberg and a Michael Woods who was their leader for a Corsa Rosa where they were looking to get a stage win that would give them a grand tour hat-trick. Woods and Raisberg were part of a crash that occurred with 25 kilometers to go in the stage. Both were in trouble and quite upset about the time it took for spare bikes to arrive from the team car. Their group of riders was the last to cross the finish line in Lucca, more than 13 minutes behind stage winner Benjamin Thomas. However, bad news was still to come. The team confirmed Raisberg's withdrawal from the race last night after it was discovered that he suffered a fractured hand. Woods suffered no fractures, but the team confirmed the decision this morning. "After crashing on stage 5 of the Giro d'Italia, Mike Woods is unable to continue in the race," the team shared on social media. "An initial examination ruled out fractures, but in line with the team's concussion protocol, Woods was observed overnight, during which mild concussion symptoms were present and, as a precautionary measure, the decision has been made for him to withdraw. He will travel home today to recover." UPDATE Bad news for the Israeli team following Woods' announcement. Canadian Riley Pickrell also drops out of the race due to injuries sustained. "I'm super disappointed, dropping out of your first grand tour is something no rider wants to do," he said. "I came here and wanted to finish the race, obviously getting through a grand tour is a great accomplishment for any rider." "I hope to have this opportunity again and be able to come back and make it to the finish."
