Team
Ineos Grenadiers is one of the strongest team in the
Tour de France. They have successfully positioned their three riders under the top 10 in GC, with team leader
Geraint Thomas just 1 minute and 17 seconds behind the overall leader.
Thomas is showing his best form, but his formidable opponent Pogacar will not be easy to beat. Pogacar has already secured 2 stage victories, making it even harder to catch up to him.
âFor Geraint Thomas to win this yearâs Tour de France, I donât think heâs going to get the job done by going head-to-head in a battle with Pogacar himself, Itâll need to be a combination of all his teammates who are sitting inside the top 10 at the moment, like
Adam Yates and
Tom Pidcock, and even riders from other teams making moves â so in effect, they start to gang up on
Tadej Pogacar,â said McEwen to Eurosport.
He continues, âTry to wear his team out, get him isolated, get him having to do the work at parts of the stages which are going to tire him out so eventually someone can go on the attack. If itâs someoneâs lucky number, it could be Gâs to then be the one to go, take advantage of the situation. I think thatâs the only way it can be won because just trying to do it purely on brute force against Tadej Pogacar. I think youâre banging your head against a brick wall.â
