Marlon Moncrieffe is a lecturer at the Brighton University who was invited to talk at a recent Eurosport show, and has talked about the current situation in cycling regarding black cyclists in the peloton.
"Cycling... is it a racist sport? I would say that it is racist, yeah... What Iâve tried to do is show the sport through a different lens. A black lens, a black imagination," Moncrieffe told Eurosport, in it's weekly 'The Cycling Show'.
âThere are some opportunities for Black riders from the African continent to race on the World Tour, but from a European perspective, from the UK, the USA - none. We havenât really seen anyone progress to that level," he added.
Moncrieffe concluded: âWhere Black cyclists have aimed to reach the highest point in the sport, their careers have been stymied... There's been some movement to address that gap, but we haven't really seen that transcend into racing at the national level.â
