Despite
Lotto Soudal's
UCI World Tour relegation, their star sprinter,
Caleb Ewan is "not going anywhere." At least according to a spokesperson for the Belgian team.
Ewan is currently under contract until the end of 2024 and the unnamed Lotto Soudal spokesperson told Cycling Weekly that âCaleb has said internally to us that he will stay on the team. At the moment weâre planning and discussing his programme and goals for next season, which will continue next week,â
On the mention of a potential relegation clause in Ewan's contract allowing the Australian to leave the spokesperson defiantly reiterated "He has always expressed his intention to stay towards us and nothing will change.â Adding, "Caleb extended his contract together with
Jasper De Buyst. They will be a hard-to-beat combination in 2023. For them, nothing changes, next year we will be fighting for victory in the biggest races"
Despite
EF Education-EasyPost manager,
Jonathan Vaughters recently calling the relegation battle "a really absurd way of racing", Lotto Soudal have been looking at the positives of dropping out of the World Tour with the spokesperson saying "We had to take some steps and think about ways we could change things for the better and for the good of the team. The fact that for example Caleb says âok Iâm committed to this team, they have a plan for me and for the entire teamâ just confirms to us that weâre moving in the right direction.â
